Privacy
This site does not require user accounts, does not sell goods directly, and does not collect personal information from visitors beyond standard web server logs (IP address, user-agent string, requested page, timestamp) used for operational purposes such as troubleshooting and traffic analysis. These logs are not shared with third parties except as required by law.
The site uses live data feeds from NOAA (tide predictions) and the National Weather Service (forecasts and surf alerts). Browser requests to these services are made from the visitor's device directly to the data provider; the visitor's IP address is shared with those providers as part of the standard request. No personally identifying data is shared.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to measure aggregate traffic patterns — how many visitors arrive, what pages they read, which outbound links they follow, and how the site performs technically. The information is used to make the site better and to understand which content is most useful to clammers. The data Google Analytics collects includes:
- Pages visited and time spent on each
- Approximate geographic location (city-level, derived from IP address; the IP itself is not retained or exposed in reports)
- Browser, operating system, and device type
- Referring source (which search engine or link brought the visitor)
- Outbound link clicks (such as clicks to CDFW, NOAA, or webcam pages)
The site does not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any other personally-identifying information through analytics. Google Analytics data is processed under Google's Privacy Policy.
Visitors who prefer not to be measured by Google Analytics can install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, which is available for all major browsers and disables Google Analytics tracking on every site they visit. Browsers configured to send a Do Not Track signal are also respected where the browser supports it.
The site does not use third-party advertising networks, retargeting pixels, or social-media tracking pixels at this time. A cookie consent banner satisfying EU and UK privacy requirements is planned and will be added before any expansion of tracking or advertising integrations.
